This is in progress check back once in a while, it will be days and weeks to put
this together.
Burning Man was unbelievable. This was my second burn experience, the first being Transormus. Leaving Saturday morning at 2am I arrived during the Tuesday Whiteout about mid-day, attempting to set up my one man camp - Camp Maconga - (unregistered) at about 7:10 and Hope. After a 6 hour fight with the dust and wind I made my peace with the weather, asserted my Playa identity of "Unga Bunga John", found my hot/cold beverage cup with carabineer clip, changed into my colorful playa clothes, put on some required illumination and began a long stroll for the Playa.
Another world indeed. I put away my camera and didn't take it out the whole time except to document my shade structure and my tent-cot inside it. There were thousands of people taking pictures and I figure they can post those to flickr and other sites on the Internet. Why should I take pictures of people participating when I am in dire need of participation and radical self expression - being my first Burning Man and all.
I haven't found the words to describe it and as I have been told and read so often you may never be able to describe the Burning Man experience to people who have not been there. The one idea that I did bring home is that "NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!". I found that until I stood amid the overwhelming art of the playa - all of my previous thoughts were small.
The scale of art being done here and the number of years that these ideas take to become reality humble your tiny first time contribution.
I have put some pictures from my drive out and a bit of stuff on here my vacation pages. Some new burn friends I met out there took a few photos of me, When I get them sent to me I'll post them up for the horrified rubberneckers to gawk at, all slow motion train-wreck like.
I'm going to spend a few nights in the studio trying to come to grips with the experience and to put pigment to canvas with the intent of liberating some of the images that have been pressed into the folds of my brain since I first arrived on the Playa. This will be a several weeks and months decompression of images and thoughts and emotions that were packed into my mind during my brief 7 days at Burning Man.
There are also the inevitable consequences of expressing these ideas and it may be detrimental to my well being or not??? I'll only find out after I release them from the crevices and shadows of my playa dust encrusted think bucket.
Depart Macon, GA at 2:00AM Saturday 26th August 2006.
Saturday Night outside Oklahoma City.
Sunday Night Grants, NM
Meteor Crater:

About an Hour off of I-40 to the South Rim Park Entrance. I liked the "How often do people fall from the edge?" sign. like that pose eh?
Hoover Dam, for some Damn Pictures,
On my drove along the western side of Death Valley the sun began to set and I snapped these from the car window.
Monday Night Beatty, NV
Next Day was just Drive and Drive
Tuesday Mid-Day Arrive in Black Rock City on the Playa near Gerlach, NV White-out dust storm Tuesday, then a Whopper of a Brown-out storm with very high winds on Wednesday. After that it was nice for the rest of the burn until the Exodust! on Sunday and Monday. My Shade Structure - Unofficially Camp Maconga!
I put my camera away and decided to let the other 40,000 people take pictures
and post them on the Internet for me to see. I figured I'd just participate
instead of taking pictures of people participating.

Monday start the car at 9:30am and depart the gate at about 1:15pm. An RV was just starting to burn good on the road out (447) and I just did get around it as flames began to shoot from a window broken by a guy with a fire extinguisher, A water jug brigade was forming - I think it was not going to be successful since the smoke was streaming straight out the doors parallel to the ground. It was about 20 minutes down the highway before I saw the pumper truck headed their way. It's almost 120 miles to the interstate from the playa.
Arrived in Lovelock, NV got a room and slept the night. I went to Winnemucca, NV in the morning and got my car serviced at the Wal-Mart before I headed the almost 3000miles home.
Bonneville Salt Flats:
Stopped in Coalville for the night on the other (east) side of Salt Lake City In the morning continued East into the sunrise.
Went on through Wyoming and Nebraska,
Sent Sheri's son, Gideon a post card from the original pony express station.
Spent the night in Cozad, Nebraska,
Stopped in Jefferson City, Missouri to see my Grandmother (what a great visit with a wonderful woman). Also got to see an Aunt, Cousin and his wife too.
Went to Mammoth Caves, KY. Took the 2hr/2mile Historical Tour for $11
Visited my friend Angela in Edmonton, Ky. where I forgot my bank card at the subway sandwich shop and had to back track over two hours each way to go get it. whew! that extra 4 hours would have made a big difference on the road Saturday.
Stopped just outside of Knoxville at 4pm Saturday due to fatigue and downhill crosseyedness. Slept, and hit the road about 1:00am getting home to Payne City at about 7:00am Sunday Morning.
